Massachusetts Social Media Recordkeeping Guide.

Understanding what the Massachusetts Public Records Law requires of your social media activity, and what "compliant" actually looks like in practice, isn't always straightforward. This plain-language guide gives counties, cities & municipalities and public agencies a clear path.

M.G.L. c. 66, § 10(a)–(c) — Permit inspection or furnish a copy no later than 10 business days after receipt. If production is not made within that period, the written response must identify a timeframe for production no longer than 15 business days for a state agency or 25 business days for a municipality; further extensions approved by the Supervisor of Records are separately limited (M.G.L. c. 66, § 10(a)–(c)).
