Archive an official Facebook Page: a buyer’s test plan

Compare a Page download with an ongoing records workflow, then test posts, conversations, media and account ownership.

Practical guide for records, communications and IT teams

Are you saving a Page copy or operating an archive?

Clarify the task before choosing a tool. A one-time Page download and an ongoing organizational recordkeeping process solve different operational problems. The latter also needs ownership, repeatable capture, retrieval and exception handling. Use the actual Page and content types in your scope rather than assuming a demonstration of a personal profile represents an official Page.

Work through a realistic example

A public works Page publishes a service notice with an image and receives replies from residents. Build a sample that tests the notice, the supported conversation structure and the image as separate checks. If the media is represented only by a source link, ask what a later reviewer can open when the live post is unavailable.

Run the workflow

  1. Confirm the Page identifier and the approved person who can authorize the connection. Record business ownership separately from an individual administrator.
  2. Check Meta’s current Page-download guidance if a native copy is part of the plan. Inspect the resulting package rather than assuming its contents match a vendor archive.
  3. Run a representative post-and-conversation sample through search and export. List unsupported content types and any differences between the Page view and the archive.

Check the evidence

Record the decision and its limits

Document the tested Page scope and the response to an expired or changed authorization. Recheck capture after account administration changes and keep an alert owner who can resolve access issues.

Keep in mind: This guide concerns official organizational Pages. It does not promise access to private groups, personal accounts or content outside the authorized integration scope.

Common questions

Is downloading the Page enough?

Test the actual package against your retrieval and operating requirements. A one-time copy does not by itself establish an ongoing capture or review process.

Will all Facebook content types behave the same way?

Do not assume that. Ask for a current supported-content list and test each content type that matters to your organization.
