Why ‘Set-And-Forget’ Archiving Works For This Shire
For the Shire of Harvey, social media growth meant new demands and more responsibilities. Brolly quietly helped solve that.
For the Shire of Harvey, social media growth meant new demands and more responsibilities. Brolly quietly helped solve that.
Like many growing councils, the Shire of Harvey has seen a clear shift in how it connects with its community. Social media is now front and centre.
“As our has Shire grown, we have needed more engagement with our community,” explained the shire’s IT Officer. “That led to a larger marketing team, and more posting across our Shire and two Recreation Centre accounts.”
But with that growth came a problem. Every post, comment, and message needed to be captured and stored to meet recordkeeping obligations.
At first, the team did this manually – but it was slow, repetitive, and left room for error.
“We were essentially doubling our work—posting content, then saving it somewhere else to stay compliant.”
The team tried an online archiving tool, but it didn’t meet Australian data requirements. The data was stored offshore, and that was a dealbreaker.
That’s when they found Brolly.
Set up was quick. Our archiving tool slotted perfectly into their existing systems. And, most importantly, all data is securely stored in Australia.
“Once Brolly was in place, it just ran in the background without issues,”

“Now and then, you need to reconnect accounts—Facebook and Instagram require it—but otherwise, it’s a set-and-forget solution. That’s one of the things we like about it.”
They also liked that they could schedule manual downloads when needed, making reporting easy.
For the marketing team, Brolly has been ticking along quietly behind the scenes.
“We manage everything from websites and newsletters to Rec Centre promotions and emergency comms,” said Trish Palmonari, Manager Public Relations and Communications.
“Social media plays a huge role in how we keep our community informed.”

That includes storm and fire updates, changes to bin collection, dog registrations, council meeting outcomes, and more. Some posts spark significant engagement, and others are more routine—but they all need to be archived.
The marketing team ‘inherited’ Brolly and, until recently, hadn’t been maximising its insights features. That’s about to change.
“I’m keen to explore what else we can do with it. Especially for reporting. It’s valuable to show what we share and how people engage.”
Now in place for over three years, Brolly has made social media archiving a non-issue for the Shire of Harvey.
“It just works. It’s one less thing we have to worry about.”

And for the marketing team, there’s growing interest in tapping into its reporting features—unlocking even more value from a tool already doing the heavy lifting in the background.
