Social media compliance 101: get to know your RDA

In Australia, business records have to be retained for a period of time. But when it comes to dynamic social media content, it gets tricky. This is what you need to know.

Receipts and rosters. Pay slips and policies. These are just some of the records you must keep if you’re operating a business in Australia.

But you also need to record customer correspondence. Emails, online chat, private messages – any transaction with your customers has to be recorded and archived.

And social media? Yes…but that’s where it gets a little tricky.

Do you know how long you need to keep social records? When can they be destroyed? And what if the content is updated after the original is archived?

This is where a retention and disposal authority (RDA) comes into play.

Not familiar with RDA’s yet?

Here’s your quick guide to RDA’s and how they (and Brolly) ensure you remain compliant with your recordkeeping obligations.

What is an RDA and why do I need one?

What does an RDA mean for my social media content?

But social media content is always changing. So when does the retention period start? When was the content first posted? When was the last comment shared on the post?

As you can see, it’s not straightforward.

Fortunately, you don’t need to worry about this if you have Brolly!

With our archiving solution, you can effortlessly stay on top of your social media recordkeeping.  How do I manage social media content within my eDRMS?

Electronic document and records management systems (eDRMS) are great for storing documents. But less so for social media, where new conversations are always happening.

But Brolly seamlessly records this for you.

To store this content in your eDRMS, simply export a report from Brolly (in PDF, HTML, CSV or JSON) which provides a true, secure account of all your social media interactions. Yo ucan then use the RDA policies

Excitingly, our new Brolly x Micro Focus Content Manager integration takes this to a whole new level.

How does the Brolly x Micro Focus® Content Manager help with social media recordkeeping?

Many government and large enterprises use the Micro Focus® Content Manager content management system.

But it can often become cluttered with unnecessary content or not show the most recent version with full context.

For simplicity, we have designed a software integration between Brolly and Content Manager. This streamlines the retention of your social media content by:

With our archiving solution and new Content Manager integration, remaining compliant with social media recordkeeping obligations set out by your RDA, has never been easier. Keen to know more? Get in touch today!
