{"id":942,"date":"2018-08-08T22:23:04","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T12:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brolly.com.au\/?p=942"},"modified":"2020-11-12T08:33:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T21:33:06","slug":"social-media-policy-template-security-breaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brolly.io\/ca\/blog\/2018\/08\/08\/social-media-policy-template-security-breaches\/","title":{"rendered":"Social media policy template: Security breaches"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Changes to the Privacy Act and the passing of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/Parliamentary_Business\/Bills_Legislation\/Bills_Search_Results\/Result?bId=r5747\">Notifiable Data Breach Bill<\/a>&nbsp;spell changes for Australian businesses, social media archiving and information management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve put together a cheat sheet to help you understand how it might impact you and for you to use as a template in your social media policy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is a security breach?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A security breach can include; lost or stolen laptops, USBs or other portable storage devices, paper records that have been misplaced or stolen, lost direct messages, deleted Facebook conversations with a member of the public or emails that contain sensitive information sent to the wrong person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes in legislation show a change towards ensuring&nbsp;organisations&nbsp;take responsibility for the communication and identification of data breaches, including their reporting and information management duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is a Notifiable Data breach?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Customer or client information has disappeared or is not accessible<\/li><li>A third party has&nbsp;unauthorised&nbsp;access to customer\/client data<\/li><li>Personal information that identifies an individual has been disclosed (inadvertently, maliciously&nbsp;or accidentally)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What steps\u00a0you do\u00a0take if you experience an\u00a0unauthorised\u00a0breach?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If any&nbsp;unauthorised&nbsp;breach, disclosure or loss of data poses a genuine risk to individuals involved, the&nbsp;organisation&nbsp;has a duty of care to report the matter and directly contact anyone who\u2019s data may have been compromised.<\/li><li>Notify anyone affected by any data breach the appropriate action and where they can get support.<\/li><li>Your&nbsp;organisation&nbsp;may be required by law to notify the Privacy Commissioner and any affected members of the public when data breaches or data losses occur.<\/li><li>Organisations&nbsp;who don\u2019t report \u2018breaches\u2019 or ignore their reporting obligations are liable to pay fines up to $360,000 for individuals and $1.8 million for&nbsp;organisations.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Changes to the Privacy Act and the passing of the&nbsp;Notifiable Data Breach Bill&nbsp;spell changes for Australian businesses, social media archiving and information management.
