{"id":946,"date":"2017-08-07T22:26:36","date_gmt":"2017-08-07T12:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brolly.com.au\/?p=946"},"modified":"2020-11-12T08:28:58","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T21:28:58","slug":"social-media-could-it-cost-you-your-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brolly.io\/au\/blog\/2017\/08\/07\/social-media-could-it-cost-you-your-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Media \u2013 could it cost you your job?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Australian Public Service Commission has released a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apsc.gov.au\/publications-and-media\/current-publications\/making-public-comment\">new social media policy<\/a> on making public comments on social media. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The guide indicates that government employees could lose their jobs, or risk disciplinary action, if they post, disagree or interact with anti-government content on social media, even out of hours and on their personal profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.canberratimes.com.au\/national\/public-service\/new-public-service-social-media-policy-is-overreach-union-boss-nadine-flood-20170806-gxqjyq.html\">The Canberra Times<\/a>&nbsp;states \u201cthe new rules warn public servants don\u2019t have unlimited rights of free speech, including warning against breaches of the Public Service Code of Conduct through criticising departments, the government, and opposition or through expressing negative views on government policies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article went on to state that \u201cLiking, reposting and sharing social media content or even selecting Facebook\u2019s \u201cangry face\u201d icon could breach employment conditions, while not taking sensible action about objectionable material posted by someone else could be seen as endorsement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guide also warns against anonymous&nbsp;anti-government posting, as public servants can be traced, through screenshots taken by colleagues or being reported by someone in their department or through digital means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guidelines cover a range of topics, from liking and sharing content or petitions to liking pages and joining groups.
