Local Government in Victoria is having a challenging  year in 2020. We\u2019re seeing key thinkers in the area of digital transformation agree that the challenges come hand in hand with opportunities and solutions that will ultimately benefit councils and the people they serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a September 2020 media release<\/a>, the Municipal Association of Victoria<\/a> (MAV) acknowledged the work that councils are already doing in the area of digital transformation, noting that \u201cthe pandemic hit at a time of digital innovation and fast-moving technological development is one small mercy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting this observation, at Brolly we\u2019ve seen a consistent increase in social media usage by local government during the pandemic. While in most cases, there was a peak of activity in March and April that has since evened out, usage is at higher levels now than it was prior to Covid-19. Not only \u201cdigitalisation is desperately needed \u2013 at scale \u2013 to help heal the nation\u2019s financial wounds\u201d but also \u201crapid digitalisation has changed consumer expectations forever. From telecommuting as the new normal, to online service delivery for medical care, Australians now want \u2013 in fact, expect \u2013digital solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
